Like so many others, my passion for music runs deep. However, I often found it unnecessarily difficult to find new music that suits my taste. It is way too easy to get stuck in the same old playlists that you’ve had on repeat for years without broadening your horizons. I mean, Spotify grants you access to over 100 million songs and if you were to listen non-stop it would require about four lifetimes to explore the entirety of Spotify’s database in a single session. But, about two months ago, I stumbled upon something that made my music experience just a little easier. It’s my latest obsession on Spotify Discover Weekly. With this feature, you avoid the hassle of searching for new songs and artists because Spotify does it for you!

Many have recently discovered other fun and inventive features of Spotify such as the nostalgia-inducing Spotify Wrapped and the musical delights of Spotify’s DJ. I now recommend you to add another smart function to the list with Spotify’s clever music features, which offer even more ways to enhance your music experience.

But fret not, non Spotify-users! Many other big music-streaming services such as Apple Music, Soundcloud or Tidal provide similar features as Discover Weekly. Personally, I use Spotify but of course there are endless other alternatives. For example, Tidal has a playlist called Daily Discovery while Apple Music has a playlist called New Music Mix which both offer a comparable experience.

What is Discover Weekly?

It’s a playlist that Spotify creates every Monday with 30 new songs just for you. It’s tailored to the music you listen to and is filled with both older and newer songs. Another fun feature of this playlist is that it not only throws in fresh tracks you’ve never heard, but also those older songs that you used to listen to but somehow slipped your mind. Additionally, I often come across songs in my Discover Weekly that sound familiar, yet whose names or artists I never knew. Now I am finally able to add them to my favorites! The playlist is not just about mainstream artists either. My Discover Weekly is frequently filled with many underrated artists who might only have a handful of listens per month. These are the hidden treasures you might never stumble upon otherwise, and they’re right there waiting for you in your playlist.

The weekly update of the list, conveniently set for Mondays, is just another bonus. Mondays often lack excitement but with the arrival of Discover Weekly, there’s always something to look forward to. It’s a refreshing break from the usual Monday blues (or maybe a way to find some new ones), offering a new playlist to explore and enjoy, adding a bit of excitement to the start of the week. Nonetheless, you must remember to save your favorites because when the week ends, the playlist disappears and you get a fresh personalized one on Monday.

Five of my favorite songs from my own Discover Weekly playlist:

  • Take Yo’ Praise with Camille Yarbrough
  • Oogum Boogum Song with Brenton Wood
  • Spooky with Dusty Springfield
  • This Guy’s in Love with You with Herb Alpert
  • Didn’t I with Darondo

To conclude, if you are tired of listening to the same-old songs on repeat and struggling to find new music, I highly encourage you to dive into Discover Weekly. Think of this Spotify feature as your own personal music guide, consistently recommending you a unique blend of songs tailored specifically to your tastes. Who knows, your new favorite song might be waiting for you in your very own Discover Weekly!
