As the clock strikes midnight, we welcome the arrival of a new year, it throws us with a sense of renewal and a promise of new opportunities. This moment serves as a blank canvas upon which we can artfully paint our deepest aspirations and dreams, our goals for the new year. New  Year’s resolutions have become a tradition, a ritualistic act of setting intentions for the upcoming months. It is a time when we reflect on the tapestry of the past year. Guided by the spirit of self-improvement. We enthusiastically seize the opportunity to redefine ourselves and strive towards becoming the enhanced versions of ourselves. In this article, we will explore the significance of New Year’s resolutions, the art of setting realistic goals.

A New Year’s resolution might seem like a cliché—a declaration without subsequent action. Perhaps you wish to make a change in your life but lack the motivation or time. The new year can provide a head start towards achieving the goals you strive for.

But how do you keep up with the resolution, you may ask? Here are six steps to maximize your chances of making a good New Year’s resolution:

1. Make a resolution that comes from your heart, something that you want to accomplish for yourself. Something important for you in your life. A task or goal that you believe will improve you, and that you do for yourself and not because  you “should.”

2. To make it more manageable and not feel like an overwhelming task, make milestones for yourself to divide the goal into smaller tasks. That will feel like you are making progress and give you the little kick of dopamine you need to  keep working towards your goals.

3. Create the best conditions for yourself. My goal for the year is to knit a pair of gloves by myself. But if you want to read a book or run a marathon, take the step to start progressing smaller. Buy some yarn you like and a pattern you would like to try, buy a book that sounds good and put away all distractions, or put your training clothes near you.

4. To have setbacks is normal and accept the fact that they will happen. If you are aware that it will happen, you will be better prepared and know that it is just a phase and keep on trying.

5. Remember to reward yourself for small and big accomplishments. Such as listening to yourself, hanging out with friends more often, or sleeping better. Treat yourself with what makes you feel good.

6. In my opinion, the key to success is patience and setting realistic goals. It might be harder sometimes but motivate yourself with the thought that you want to achieve this goal. A durable goal requires dedication and time, but once you have  impacted your behavioral patterns, it will feel less intriguing.

In essence, success lies in patience, realistic goals, and the understanding that setbacks are part of the journey. Let the new year not just be about resolutions but a recognition of your capacity for enduring change and personal empowerment. May each small victory be a step toward the life you aspire to lead. Happy New Year!
