(“Gott och nära” is commonly referred to as “Helsingkronakebaben”)
It’s a late Friday night and time for another late night food review. This time I’ve had to make my way to Helsingkrona’s Schlager night. It is not a personal favourite, but it had to do. After a long day of studying, and a lot of dancing, it is finally time for some kebab.
The restaurant is filled with other students who look to come from the same previous destination as me, so there is a queue. The time it took for me to stand in queue, order and receive my food was commendably short, a big plus for me as a late night visitor. This time I ordered a regular kebab plate with every sauce.
I like the premise, it’s clean and makes me feel like I’m in the right place for kebab. As opposed to Challes, they’re purely a fast food place, and do not sell anything other than food and beverages. However I don’t think it takes anything away from the experience because it’s not to be expected. The food is great in my opinion. I have never received soggy fries here, and did not do so this time. Everything is made as you order it and the meat is GREAT. I am not sure why this meat tastes better as I forgot to ask if there is anything special about it. No surprises with the sauces, they taste great but nothing special. Lastly the vegetables are really fresh, the sallad is crispy and tomatoes feel freshly cut.
I think this is one of the best normal kebabs that I can recall ordering after 11pm, I really like that everything is made after you order it which gives it a really fresh feeling (or as fresh as kebab can feel). In my eyes, the strongest selling point here is the food itself, which It think is the most important for a fast food joint. The restaurant is clean and the staff are really nice.
Grade: I give Gott och nära 4.5 out of 5 Skånisar
